Quick picks

  • Best for most adult rec leagues: Simple Standings. A public table everyone checks on their phone after the game; free, no accounts, no app.
  • Best if scheduling is the hard part: LeagueLobster. It fits games around diamonds, rinks and court times.
  • Best for team logistics: TeamSnap. RSVPs so you know you have nine players, plus chat. Not a league table on team plans.
  • Best if you love formulas: a spreadsheet. Free and flexible, until it breaks.

How we picked

Adult rec leagues are run by one or two volunteers, often a player, and the people checking the table are other players on their phones, usually at the bar after the game. So we weighted: how fast you get a table up, whether anyone needs an account to see it, what it costs a league that does not charge much, and how much setup it asks for before the first game.

We make Simple Standings, so treat its place on this list accordingly. Every fact about the other products is from their own pages, linked under Sources.

The picks

The four options

  1. Best for: adult rec leagues that need a table and a link

Price: Free; $9.99 once per league for no ads

Type the standings in (or add each game and let it count), and share one link with the league. Columns come prefilled for slo-pitch, hockey, volleyball and the rest of its sports, with formula columns for your own tiebreakers.

    Good

    • A standings table on day one: type results in, no schedule required
    • Public link and QR code; viewers need no account or app
    • Schedule and player stats on the same link, CSV export of everything, all free
    • Up to 5 co-admins per league, and live scorekeepers that save into the table

    Not so good

    • No registration, payments or team messaging
    • No website or custom domain
    • Ads on the public page unless you pay $9.99 once
  2. Best for: building a schedule around venues, time slots and travel

Price: Free (50 games a month, with ads); LITE $9.95/mo; PRO $29.95/mo (USD, monthly only)

A schedule generator first: it fits a season around your venues and rules, then standings fill in as you enter scores. The free plan covers 50 games a month with ads and no export.

    Good

    • Constraint scheduling (venues, time slots, travel, back-to-backs) on PRO
    • Registration without a subscription
    • Exports schedules in formats other platforms import (paid plans)

    Not so good

    • Export off on the free plan; ad-free means a monthly plan
    • Standings need a published schedule; custom standings are PRO
    • Billed monthly only, plus per-game charges over 100 a month
  3. Best for: running each team: RSVPs, chat, payments

Price: Free (about 15 players); Premium $10.83/mo billed annually or $18.99 monthly; Ultra $13.75/mo billed annually or $25.99 monthly (USD, per team); clubs and leagues by quote

The team app: availability, messaging, assignments, payments and real iOS and Android apps. One plan covers one team. League standings need TeamSnap for Business or Clubs & Leagues.

    Good

    • Availability and RSVPs (Premium and up), team chat, assignments
    • Native phone apps
    • Payments from players or parents

    Not so good

    • No league standings table on team plans, and no public team page since 2017
    • Priced per team; club and league plans by quote
    • Player stats need Premium or Ultra
  4. Best for: one organizer who likes formulas and a small audience

Price: Free with a Google or Microsoft account

Google Sheets or Excel Online, shared as a view-only link. Free and familiar, and it can do anything if you build it. Most people move off it when the formulas break or the league starts checking it on phones.

    Good

    • Free, and you already know it
    • Total control over columns and formulas

    Not so good

    • You build and maintain every formula
    • Hard to read on a phone; sharing permissions to manage
    • No schedule filters or public page design

When another pick is better

  • Your venue gives you time slots and you need the season built around them: LeagueLobster.
  • Your captains spend Thursday night chasing RSVPs: TeamSnap for each team.
  • You collect league fees online: LeagueLobster (registration) or a league platform.
  • You have eight teams, one season and a formula habit: a spreadsheet is fine.

Where Simple Standings is not the answer

  • Registration, fees and waivers.
  • Team RSVPs and messaging.
  • Scheduling around venue availability.
  • A page with no ads, unless you pay $9.99 once for the league.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is the best free app for adult league standings?
For a standings table the whole league can open without accounts, Simple Standings: free with ads, every feature included. LeagueLobster’s free plan is the other good free option if you also want it to build the schedule, within 50 games a month.
Do players need to download anything?
Not for Simple Standings or LeagueLobster’s public pages: both open in a browser. TeamSnap is an app with accounts.
Can the other captains update the scores?
In Simple Standings you can invite up to 5 co-admins per league by email, and a co-admin can edit everything in it. Reporting a score from its schedule row moves both teams in the standings.
