Why it has to be set up

Nothing in your league records which column counts victories. You might have called it W, Won, or Wins; soccer presets use D for draws while hockey uses T for ties; baseball counts RF and RA where soccer counts GF and GA. Guessing from the names would be wrong often enough to produce silently incorrect standings, which is the worst thing this product could do. So it asks you once and remembers.

Step by step

   Open Settings and find Score reporting

   It appears on the Settings tab for premium accounts on leagues that have a standings table.

   Map your columns

   Point each role at one of your own number columns: Wins, Losses, Ties / draws, Scored for, Scored against. Anything you leave as Not tracked simply does not move. Suggest from my columns fills in the obvious ones by name — check what it picked rather than assuming.

   Wins and losses are required

   Those two are the minimum that makes a reported score mean anything. Ties, scored for and scored against are optional — map them and they update too, leave them and they do not.

   Save, then report from the Schedule tab

   Each schedule row gets a Report score action. Enter the home and away score, and the standings rows for both teams move by the right amounts.

   Undo if you got it wrong

   A reported score can be undone from the same row. The exact amounts that were added are reversed, so an undo leaves the standings where they were rather than approximately where they were.

Team names have to match

A reported score finds its teams by the names in your Home Team and Away Team columns, matched against the rows in your standings. "Red Sox" in the schedule and "The Red Sox" in the standings are two different teams as far as this is concerned, and you will be told which name it could not find rather than having the score silently go nowhere.

This is the one thing to get consistent before your season starts. Generating your schedule from your team list rather than typing the names again is the easiest way to guarantee it.

Points are still a formula

Score reporting deliberately does not know about points systems. It counts wins, losses and ties; an ordinary computed column turns those counts into points — W × 3 + D for a 3-1-0 league — and that already works and already handles every variation. Set the points column up once as a formula and reported scores feed it automatically.

A tie needs a tie column

If two teams finish level and you have not mapped a Ties / draws column, there is nowhere for the result to go and the report is refused rather than being recorded as something it was not. Map a tie column, or record that game by hand.
