## The template, filled in

Sample results on the hockey Advanced preset, sorted by points. You type W, L, OTL, GF and GA; the computed columns fill themselves in.

| # | Team | W | L | OTL | PTS | GF | GA | GD |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | North Stars | 8 | 1 | 1 | 17 | 41 | 22 | +19 |
| 2 | Frostbite | 6 | 3 | 1 | 13 | 36 | 30 | +6 |
| 3 | Wolfpack | 5 | 3 | 2 | 12 | 33 | 31 | +2 |
| 4 | Mighty Mullets | 4 | 5 | 1 | 9 | 29 | 35 | -6 |
| 5 | Puck Dynasty | 2 | 7 | 1 | 5 | 22 | 43 | -21 |

- **PTS** = W × 2 + OTL
- **GD** = GF − GA

## Want full hockey league software?

Schedules, registration and stats for a hockey league in one place. Simple Standings does not do that today; if enough hockey organizers want it, it will be built. The HTML page has an email sign-up for organizers who want it, worded: "Yes, email me if Simple Standings builds hockey league software, plus Simple Standings news and tips. Unsubscribe anytime."

## Why Simple Standings

A hockey table needs three result columns, not two, because an overtime loss still earns a point. The hockey template starts with exactly that: wins, losses, overtime losses and points, plus goals for, goals against and goal differential on the Advanced preset. Points are a formula, W × 2 + OTL, and goal differential is GF − GA, so you only type the results and the table does the arithmetic and re-sorts by points. Report a score and the OT/SO tick gives the loser an overtime loss instead of a loss. Every column stays editable, so a 3-2-1-0 league or a league that counts ties can change the formula. Players open one read-only link on any phone, no account needed.

### 3. Report scores

Enter each final, tick OT/SO when it went past regulation, and share the link.

## Frequently asked questions

### How are points calculated?

Two points for a win, one for an overtime or shootout loss, none for a regulation loss. On the Advanced preset the PTS column is the formula W × 2 + OTL, so it fills itself in. The hockey standings guide explains the 2-1-0 and 3-2-1-0 systems and the usual tiebreakers.

### What is the difference between Simple and Advanced?

Simple is W, L, OTL and PTS, all typed in by you. Advanced adds GF, GA and GD, and makes PTS and GD calculate themselves. Pick either in the create wizard; the Create a hockey standings table button opens it on Advanced.

### Where do tied games go?

When you report a tied score, the suggested setup counts it in the OTL column for both teams, which is the same one point as an overtime loss. If your league keeps ties separately, add a T column and include it in the points formula.

### Can I use a 3-2-1-0 points system?

Yes. Add a column for regulation wins (RW) and change the PTS formula to RW × 3 + (W − RW) × 2 + OTL.

### Can I bring in standings I already have?

Yes. The create wizard can import your teams from a CSV or Excel file, and the file does not have to match the template.

### Do players need an account to see the standings?

No. You get one read-only link. Anyone can open it on a phone or computer without signing up. Public pages carry ads; $9.99 USD once removes them from a league.
