# 🏐 Keep a box score for each game

> Enter a game set by set (or inning by inning) with every player’s stats, count it once, and the standings, the player totals and a page for the game all update.

A box score is the whole story of one game: the score in each set, inning or quarter, and what every player did, subs included. Count it and Simple Standings does three things at once — moves the standings, adds each player’s game to their season totals, and gives the game its own page off your schedule.

## Step by step

### 1. Check the Scoreboard settings

On the Settings tab, Scoreboard is already filled in for your sport: five sets to 25 for volleyball, nine innings with hits and errors for baseball, three periods for hockey. Change anything that does not match how your league plays.

### 2. Press Box score on a game

Every row on the Schedule tab has a Box score button in its Result column. The game needs a home and an away team first.

### 3. Fill in the line score

Type each side’s points for every period. Leave a period blank if it was not played. + Set, + OT or + Inning adds one past regulation.

### 4. Add the players

Under each team, press + Add player and type the name, or Add roster to list everyone on that team at once. Tick Sub for anyone who came off the bench, then type their numbers for this game only.

### 5. Count it, then Save

Count it adds the game to your tables. Press Save at the top as usual to keep it. Not finished? Keep as draft saves it without counting.

## How the winner is decided

Most sports add their periods up. Volleyball, pickleball, badminton, darts and pool count periods won instead, so a volleyball match goes in as 3–1 in sets, not as the points total. The winner is setting under Scoreboard picks which one your league uses. Whatever it decides is what score reporting sends to the standings, so map Scored for and Scored against to your Sets W and Sets L columns in a volleyball league.

> For rally-scored sports you get a warning, not a refusal, when a set looks wrong: 24–22, a set won by one, or a fifth set played after the match was won. Rec leagues bend these rules, so you decide.

## What counting changes

- The standings, if score reporting is set up: a win and a loss, plus scored for and against.
- Each player’s season totals, the same arithmetic as Add to totals. Computed columns like kills per game follow on their own.
- The games played column you pick under Scoreboard gets +1 for everyone listed.
- A player who is not in your statistics yet is added, with their team filled in if you picked a Player team column.
- The schedule’s score columns, if it has them, get the final.

## Fixing or undoing a game

Open the box score again, correct it and press Recount: the old numbers come out before the new ones go in, so nothing is counted twice. Undo in the Result column takes the game back out of every table and leaves the box score as a draft. A player the count added is removed again, unless they have numbers from somewhere else.

## The game page

A counted game gets a page at your share link plus /game/…, linked from the score in the Box score column of your public schedule. It shows the result, the line score, each team’s players with a team total, and your notes, in your league’s colours. Drafts are never public.

## Common questions

### Do I need a statistics table?

No. Without one, a box score is the line score and notes, and it still moves the standings and gets its own page. Turn Statistics on to add players.

### Why does a player’s name have to match exactly?

That is how a game finds the right row in your statistics, the same way a reported score finds its teams. Add roster and the name suggestions use the names already in your table, so picking from those keeps them matching.

### Can I track hits and errors, or shots on goal?

Yes. Under Scoreboard, Team totals beside the score takes a list like H, E or SOG. They show in the line score and on the game page, and do not change the standings.

### Is it free?

Yes, like everything else in the editor. The only thing for sale is taking the ads off a league.
